SEO Scam: Why You Should Ignore Unsolicited SEO Emails

Many people who run businesses, especially small businesses, are constantly bombarded with emails from people promising them the world when it comes to SEO. They guarantee first-page rankings on Google and other search engines, often at a fraction of the cost of what other companies charge.

From small business owners to large corporations, SEO scammers target anyone with unsolicited emails and offers of help. They’re like the worst version of a used car salesman – they’re pushy, their offers are too good to be true, and they’re very vague about what they actually do.

Let’s look at the top reasons why you should ignore unsolicited SEO emails and avoid doing business with these scammers.

1. SEO is not a one-time fix

Any reputable SEO company will tell you that SEO is an ongoing process that takes time, effort, and expertise to do correctly. It’s not something that can be achieved overnight, or with a few simple clicks.

SEO is a combination of content marketing, technical optimization, link building, and other tactics that need to be continuously worked on to maintain and improve your search engine rankings.

A company that offers to get you to the top of Google in a few weeks is most likely using black hat SEO techniques, or they might just be taking your money and doing nothing.

2. Vague and unrealistic promises

When someone contacts you promising first-page rankings on Google, ask them how they plan to achieve this. If they can’t give you a straight answer, or if their answer sounds vague and unrealistic, it’s a red flag.

A reputable SEO company will be able to tell you exactly what actions they will take to help improve your website’s ranking. They should also be able to give you an estimate of how long it will take to see results.

No one can guarantee results in SEO because there are too many variables, such as algorithm changes and competition, that are out of our control, but a good company will have a track record of success and should be able to show you case studies of their previous clients.

3. Shady SEO companies

There are a few things that should set off alarm bells when you receive one of these emails, but the most obvious one is the company’s legitimacy. A lot of these so-called SEO companies are nothing more than fly-by-night operations.

They might have a website, but it’s usually poorly made and has very little information about who they are and what they do. They might not even have a website at all and are only using a personal email address to contact potential clients.

Either way, these are not the types of companies you want to trust with your website’s SEO. A legitimate SEO company will have a professional website where you can easily find information about their team, qualifications, experience, process, and testimonials.

4. High risk of getting penalized by Google

While it’s tempting to believe that someone could help your website rank better for only a few hundred dollars, you’ll likely end up wasting your money and even getting penalties from Google.

Google is constantly cracking down on companies and individuals that use black hat SEO techniques, such as keyword stuffing, link buying, comment spamming, and other shady practices.

If you hire one of these companies, not only will you not see any results, but it will do more harm than good to your website and online presence. This would be a death sentence for most businesses since most of their website traffic comes from search engines.
